A previous injury prevents participation in the Finnish Rally
Bernardo Sousa is not going to participate in the Finnish rally, the fifth race in the Production World Rally Championship (PWRC) due to a previous injury to his shoulder. The Red Bull Rally Team pilot is currently undergoing physiotherapy treatment in order to recover in time to participate in the New Zealand Rally, at the end of August.
“This injury to my shoulder happened a while back, but I thought I’d manage to finish the season before being operated on. But during the Azores Rally it started to trouble me again and, after a medical examination, doctors thought it would be better to undergo physiotherapy treatment in order to strengthen my muscles and postpone the operation”, explains Bernardo Sousa. The aim of the pilot, who has already started the treatment programme, is to be prepared to participate in the New Zealand rally. “I feel sorry about not participating in the Finnish Rally but I’m not physically fit”, says the pilot, stressing that if everything goes according to plan, he will race in the New Zealand rally and then his clinical situation will be reassessed. “I will only know then what lies ahead of me for the rest of the season. Whether I can complete the calendar or whether I will have to end the season early to be operated on.”
