“A few hours ago, we finished warming up for the Torrié and I must
say that I’m confident of a good result as this is a rally with a
layout I like a lot. This year the race is certainly going to be very
competitive. I’m well aware that I can’t compete with the S2000
official cars but I’ll do everything possible to keep up with the
others and try to be the best in the group whenever I can.
This year, our objective is to win the title of this group so I’ll have to start wining the most points right from the beginning and try and forget the battle for first place, which will be very difficult to achieve.» Referring to the Group N Mitsubishi Lancer with the Red Bull colours, the pilot puts a lot of trust in the car’s performance “mainly on earth tracks where we may be able to come closer to first place. On tarmac the S2000 are clearly the better cars so we’ll have to opt for a more tactical approach to make sure we collect points for “our” championship.” Still on the topic of the opening race of the Portuguese Rally Championship, Bernardo Sousa was pleased with what he saw but he doubts whether, in some areas, “mainly those where the ground isn’t well compacted, the sections are going to support two runs or not”. During warm-up, a lot of ruts were made so the second run is certainly going to be very complicated. The team is going through a last test before the race, to take place in the Fafe area, where they may count on the support of all their technical assistants supervised by Paulo Gomes and the collaboration of Dietmar Metrich and Raymond Baumshlager, who will come from Austria to show BRR’s support for the Bernardo Sousa/Carlos Magalhães team in the Portuguese Rally Championship too...
